What's New in JW Player™ 5.1

Since 5.0 branched off from 4.5, version 5.1 re-integrates changes from 4.6+ into the 5.x branch, including:

• Bitrate Switching - allows you to configure the player to dynamically adjust video quality based on the performance of your user’s internet connection.
• Bandwidth Detection - sample and determine the bandwidth your user is experiencing.

In addition to these new functionalities, JW Player 5.1 includes DVR functionality for RTMP live streams if you’re using FMS. You can let your users pause and skip around in live streams.

Features in JW Player 5.0

The JW Player™ 5 introduces a number of architectural changes that broaden the ability to develop on and contribute to the platform.

• XML-based skinning model - No need for Flash CS4 to build skins. If you can create an XML file and images, then you can create a skin.
• Improved Plugin Architecture - The player now allows for a broader set of use cases such as securing content, player locking, advertising, and more.
• MXMLC Compilation – JW5 compiles out of the box with MXMLC. Again, no need for Flash CS4. Download our distribution and MXMLC, and you’ll be able to compile the player in minutes.
• Streamlined Event Model – For those digging into the guts of the player, you’ll notice a more consistent event model which simplifies making modifications to the player.
• Support for Media Providers – As always the JW Player supports the major CDNS, but with JW5 it’s easy to build in support for any content source and dynamically load a SWF to add that functionality to the player (just like plugins do).

In addition to the above features, JW Player™ 5 is backward-compatible with the majority of JW4 SWF Skins, JW4 Plugins, & the JW4 JavaScript API.

Note: This support will be phased out in future versons of JW Player™ 5.

JW Player™ Overview

The JW Player™ is the Internet's most popular and flexible media player. It supports playback of any format the Adobe Flash Player can handle (FLV, H.264, MP4, MP3, AAC, JPG, PNG and GIF). It also supports various streaming and playlist formats (including RMTP, HTTP, live streaming and more), a wide range of flashvar settings and an extensive JavaScript API.

The XML-based skinning functionality allows you to completely customize its look and its plugin architecture allows you to easily extend the player with features such as sharing, recommendations, searching, analytics and ad serving.

JW Player™ Module Advanced License

The license price that we negociate with our partners is the same of Longtail but include our Advanced Version of our Plugin.
By this way you will have an unbranded player, It is not the case of all the other module or plugin using this player that you can find on the JED !!

The license is only need for commercial website.

All LongTail Video products require licenses when used commercially, Examples of commercial use include :

(i) websites with any advertisements
(ii) websites owned or operated by corporations
(iii) websites designed to promote other products, such as a band or artist

Playlist Editor, 1 to 5 items for the Playlist Editor, including settings for each one. :

• Author (Author of the video, shown in the display or playlist.)
• Assign One or more Article/Section/Category to an Specific Start-Item.
• Captions.
• Title (Title of the video, shown in the display or playlist.)
• Image (location of a preview image; shown in display and playlist.)
• Tags (Keywords associated with the media file.)
• RTMP/HTTP Server (Location of an rtmp/http server instance to use for streaming. Can be an RTMP application or external PHP/ASP file. More info here.)
• Start (Position in seconds where playback has to start. Won't work for regular (progressive) videos, but only for streaming (HTTP / RTMP).)
• Description (Text description of the file.)
• Link (Url to an external page the display, controlbar and playlist can link to.), (deprecated for JW5.x).
• Duration (Duration of the file in seconds.)
• Type (This is determines what type of mediafile this item is, and thus which model the player should use for playback. By default, the type is detected by the player based upon the file extension. If there's no suiteable extension or the player detects the type wrong, it can be manually set.)

• Sort by date, alphabetical, random.
• Assign automaticly thumbnail file (jpg, png, gif) with audio/video file (flv, mp3, mp4, m3u) associate (same name).
• Assign defaut thumbnail (or not) with file with no thumbnail associate.
• Assign duration for image file, useful for a playlist with a lot of picture alone like gallery.
• Occurence filters for analyse name file for generate track number, title, description and author.
• Assign One Article/Section/Category to an Specific Start-Item.
• Automatic Captions(caption file must be ahve same name of the stream file).

• Appears with a dropdown List under the player.
• Assign a content ID to a playlist.
• Playlist Titles for Dropdown List choice (adress of the link, clean name of the file, or title of the rss link using curl library).
• Length Max of Playlist title for Dropdown List.
• Dropdown Style choice (defaut or using css class).

RTMP General Settings/Flashwars

• Prepend, The player will figure out by itself if it needs to strip the .flv extension off the file, or if it needs to prepend a mp4: or mp3: string to load the file. this behaviour can be skipped by setting the rtmp.prepend=false flashvar.
• Load Balance, Most frequently used RTMP functionality (such as 302 redirects, the getstreamlength call and Wowza's secureToken) is built into the player. In addition to this, the player supports loadbalancing with XML files. This is used by e.g. the Highwinds and VDO-X CDNs. Instead of loading the video, the RTMP model presumes that the file flashvar is actually an intermediate SMIL file, which is then loaded and parsed to retrieve the actual RTMP streamer and file. turn this on by adding the flashvar rtmp.loadbalance=true.
• Subscribe, A special RTMP case is the live broadcast through the Akamai or Limelight networks. These CDNs use a stream subscription mechanism for load balancing. This is supported by the player, by setting the type flashvar to fcsubscribe. The regular file and streamer flashvars are still needed. you can also set the flashvar type to rtmp and rtmp.subscribe to true (semantically nicer and 5.x compatible).

You can activate or not a Pop-Up Player, it will appear under the player of the user, by a text or an image or both or replace the player, Pop Up Player have a lot of new control :

• Size, height, width configurable.
• Image, Text or both link.
• Overide Player with image, Text or both link
• Highslide Effect. (a Highslide plugin must be install, we valid this with Core Design Scriptegrator plugin from Joomla on the JED)
• JWBox (Lightbox) Effect.
• Autedetect or not Jquery load for JWBox.
• Load CSS or not for JWBox.

LongTail's AdSolution, allows you to run pre-roll, overlay mid-roll, and post-roll advertisements in your media player.
